Overview
The Millennium Challenge Corporation was developing an education compact for The Gambia focused on strengthening education quality at upper basic, secondary, and tertiary levels. 2M Corp was engaged to implement field data collection across approximately 110 schools and 3 tertiary institutions.
The survey covered the headteacher of each school, around 300+ subject teachers (maths, English, and TVET), approximately 600+ students across upper basic and secondary levels, and 60+ tertiary students. In a small subset of selected schools, standardised 15-minute assessments in Mathematics and English were administered to approximately 20 students per school.
A team of approximately 35+ field staff (including supervisors, enumerators, and drivers) completed school surveys over roughly two weeks of fieldwork and student assessments over a further period of around ten days, with daily data quality verification and cleaning protocols.
Impact
The survey provided MCC with essential baseline data on education quality across The Gambia's upper basic, secondary, and tertiary levels — combining stakeholder interviews with direct student assessment to inform targeted investments under the education compact.
